Making Space Exploration Accessible to All Students

Are you a space enthusiast looking for an out-of-this-world experience? GU Orbit might just be the student society you've been searching for. This amazing group is making space accessible to all students, regardless of their background or area of study. GU Orbit is a group of over 60 students from various academic and ethnic backgrounds who are passionate about space exploration. They are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can learn and contribute to the aerospace industry.

Team and Accomplishments

Under the leadership of Jorge Dario Arredondo de Vega, the President of GU Orbit, this society has accomplished some incredible things since its founding in 2019. In 2020, GU Orbit won the UKSEDS Satellite Design Competition based on a Lunar Mission design. More recently, the society secured a whopping £600,000 fund to design, build, test, and launch a 3U CubeSat. This project, known as OirthirSAT, is a spinoff from the society's victory in the Launch UK Nanosat Design Competition. These experiences have helped GU Orbit establish partnerships with some impressive companies, such as Keysight Technologies, SPACEMANIC, and SPiN.

Hands-On Learning and Pioneering Values

GU Orbit's core values are commitment, inclusion, and pioneering, and these values are evident in the society's focus on providing hands-on experience to its members in developing a CubeSat. The society is currently working on CloudView, a stratospheric balloon that will allow them to test all of the subsystems they have created. Once they have completed testing, the society will launch Astraeus-01, the mission that will help them achieve their ambitious goal of building and launching a CubeSat into space from scratch.

Creating Opportunities for Students of All Backgrounds

GU Orbit's impact has been felt within the student community, as the society provides an opportunity for students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Even literature and law students have made valuable contributions to society. The goal of GU Orbit is to be remembered as a groundbreaking society that has made space more accessible to students from all fields.

GU Orbit is a one-of-a-kind experience that you do not want to miss out on. Whether you're in Glasgow or not, if you're passionate about space technologies, this society encourages you to join and be a part of the team that's breaking barriers and making space accessible to all students.
