Building Technical Knowledge and Providing Valuable Learning Opportunities for Students Interested in Investment

The Investment Society at Imperial College London is a popular choice for students interested in finance and investment. Leveraging the STEM backgrounds of its members, the society aims to build up their technical knowledge of the industry and provide them with valuable learning opportunities. Its membership has doubled in the past three years alone, and it offers a wide range of events, from educational courses on investing to networking sessions with professionals and participation in its student-led investment fund, Queen's Tower Capital.

Comprehensive Overview of the Investment Industry

One of the society's proudest achievements is the Securities Education Certificate (SEC) course, which provides a comprehensive overview of the investment industry. It covers popular asset classes and explains these concepts in an engaging and digestible manner. The latest version of the course was a 7-part lecture series conducted by a team of seven student lecturers, with over 650 student registrations.

Student-led Investment Fund and Partnerships with Notable Firms

The society has also introduced its student-led investment fund, Queens Tower Capital, which has grown immensely with over 100 analysts and various industry teams conducting research and financial analyses into different companies. The society has secured partnerships with notable firms such as Temasek, BP, and Aragon Global. This year, it has partnered with the D.E. Shaw group, the MoneyMaze Podcast, and EY-Parthenon, all of which have had the opportunity to run exclusive networking events with its members.

Hosting Panels and Networking Sessions

The society has hosted over 45 events this year, featuring engaging panels and networking sessions with speakers from a wide variety of roles and firms. It has also co-hosted its annual Women in Finance Panel in collaboration with Imperial’s Women in Business Society as part of its drive for diversity and inclusion.

Introducing Alumni Pitch Night

Fostering closer ties with its alumni in the industry has been one key area of focus this year. It believes it is essential for its members to connect with these individuals, serving as a source of inspiration and mentorship. It has begun this process by introducing a termly Alumni Pitch Night.

The Investment Society's Success Story

The Investment Society has truly exceeded all expectations this past year, with its members and committee showcasing immense dedication and hard work. They have hosted successful networking events and empowered students to break into the industry, making tremendous strides towards their goals. With new co-presidents, Nicholas Kwok and Lasen Wanni-Arachchige, there are endless possibilities for forging new partnerships, organising renditions of the SEC, and achieving great things together.
